I left my midsize firm for that reason. SO much happier. Why work those hours if you’re not getting paid?
Yep.
If you have the opportunity, why not jump?
Well, here’s the interesting part. I’m already at an AM Law 100 firm. Sooo…I’m thinking of jumping ship to smaller firm because the pay won’t be that much different than I’m making now, and hopefully less hours.
Talk to people who left the group before accepting. They would be more likely to be honest with you.
Yeah go to big law. Even on low end you’ll prob make at least $200k salary with $20k+ bonus. But it also depends on how much longer you want to work and bill that much. I went from midsize to big law and over doubled my salary, but I also work close to double what I used to. Just depends on where you’re at in life and what you’re willing and not willing to sacrifice

My firm pays first years $130k and you’d get a $30k bonus for 2200. 1850 would get you 3k. Midsized firm in NJ.

Full service firm. 150+ attorneys with a variety of specialties.
Yikes. I’d say it’s low for what you’re doing. I’m at a mid-size firm in a city with a low cost of living, and I make $110K base with $20K+ in bonuses a year. And, my billable “requirement” is 1650/year (though I more realistically bill 1800-1850).
Following.
I’d jump if you could. That’s way too much to bill for way too little pay.
I am a very very small office in Florida. I cannot pay the big firm salary but even my bonus is higher. I also have a 0 billable requirement. I just need work to be done. My associate billed 12 hours last month and I have no complaints about that. But I also cannot pay a 1, 2 or 3 year 100k. So there is a balance.
