I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?
I miss the Friday evening post. :-(

Yeahhhh…I think the name of the game will be thinking of how you can evolve with the AI tools instead of fighting against them. This goes for the whole industry, though. Not just your niche. We’re all trying to make sense of it right now.
We’re definitely not fighting against them. We use them particularly for animation, but it’s involved. It’s one thing to do a mood board or random storyboards but narrative storylines in animation get tricky, particularly if you’re doing a loose style, which some clients prefer, over the very polished MJ look. Glad to hear someone else is trying to make sense of things as well.
Our CCO just recently talked about how we would be bringing animatics in-house using AI, which we will be adding to our already busy plate. Think about how stock photo houses took over in the past 10 years. Imagine the same in the next 2 years.
We are being set up with that eventuality, which is scary pressure. I started when desktop publishing took off, so I’ve been here before. I became a typesetter and retoucher overnight.

I personally would much rather use a storyboard artist than having to do the storyboards myself, even with AI. But I don’t know how much of a choice I will have in the matter.

I’m sure people on your end (animatics, storyboards, etc) have played around with AI enough to know how short it falls with many specifics. Because when I’m trying to tell the client what I have in mind, I would much rather have the right idea conveyed than have it appear more realistic. In fact, I think too realistic sets up wrong expectations and I would rather have the client try to imagine their best.
animatics and storyboard vendors are cooked
with chatgpt image gen, an art director can whip them up in literal minutes
I’m going to be producing a TVC in a few months. Instead of hiring storyboard artists for this round. We’re going to be using AI.
Yeah what the others said. These are being whipped up internally with AI. Yeah they can be involved but clients want stuff so fast that half the time they don’t really care to look at the details.
If you don't mind sharing at your agency are AD's animating the storyboards and creating animatics as well ?
Echoing others here, AI is prevalent from both ends for now regardless of my preference, and it does “good enough” of a job for us to justify using it. I have a niece who’s still in school wanting to get into storyboarding, so I feel for you.
Has it been completely quiet, or are a few inquiries still trickling in?
Huh. AI existed last year too. If you guys are struggling this year in particular it’s more likely due to the current administration’s BS than just AI alone. Everyone is preparing to weather the storm.
