Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Yes. Your payroll taxes change (both what they are required to withhold from your paycheck on your behalf, as well what they are required to pay because they are your employer). Then there are mandatory training requirements (harassment, discrimination, etc) that vary by state.

I haven’t moved, but I manage people who have. We have been very supportive, but the account team has to clear it first (in case there are client expectations for when things clear up) and HR has to clear the paperwork
BTW, international is an entirely different can of worms.

I’m moving. My employer has been incredibly supportive.
It depends on the company . It would be helpful if they have offices already in the state where you’re moving for the reasons mentioned above. Feel it out, see what others say. Make it clear you’re happy to come into town for workshops and big meetings (even if you’re not) and best of luck!

I plan to move. Firm is supportive but definitely have to get it formally cleared because of the issues noted above.
That’s the million dollar question haha. I think id be able to do it for a year but after that I’d have to create a formal remote arrangement if I wanted to stay permanently. I think whether my firm says yes or not will depend on how much we end up embracing/keeping remote work once the threat of covid is largely gone
