We have all heard that corporate / M&A is slow right now and that it’s not looking like a great market for mid levels looking to lateral - is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

I’m a recruiter in Houston. Associates are definitely busier. KE, STB, Latham are all busy and associates are above budget again. So that’s a start. Outside of the AmLaw 20, it’s still slow. I talked to 3 associates this week under 100/month. We need more firms to get busy before we will see meaningful job openings. Plus several over hired and have too many 2021s and 2022s so that’s not helping.

I’d say Q4 2024. But that is purely an educated guess.

If I was a junior on a team during a campaign launch, is that something I can put in my book? I helped during the concepting phase, was responsible for keeping the boards up to date, and wrote a lot of the supporting materials (print, social etc) but obviously I was not on the shoot or the lead on writing the script. As long as I’m clear about my role is that acceptable?

I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. He’s leaning transactional, but also open to litigation. Any insights/advice on these firms in the TX market? Any to avoid?
