We were talking about the Artemis launch and the one difficulty was an outage of outlook. We joked as a team that the same thing happened on space wars (a TV show). Has software outages affected your real life launches? And why is it always Microsoft?

In all seriousness, this is why it’s always Microsoft:

It is insane to me that Microsoft just reboots your computer for updates even when you have work running and potentially lots of stuff open that cannot be reopened automatically upon reboot. Can you imagine how much lost work there must be and probably worse? They don’t let you change that. You can delay for 7 days, but if you forget, boom, more lost work. And there are workarounds but almost every time it updates, the workarounds are disabled, settings changed back, and you’re in the same place. At my work we have some processes running a long time, in service to customers. Usually we can redo it if we have to but occasionally it’s stuff that cannot be done again. Both the customers and my company are screwed. We would use a different OS if some of these apps were available. MacOS doesn’t do that and I’m sure Linux doesn’t either.

I think Mac does reboot for updates but you cave the option to delay until your mission critical work is done

I’m having a really hard time with my changing body. 13 weeks, I don’t have too many bad side effects of pregnancy or anything so I consider myself lucky (no nausea ever etc) but I’m depressed at work, my skin is completely broken out and showing new broken face capillaries, and I’m not showing a bump yet so I just feel fat and big. I don’t know where this “glow” is but I look in the mirror and literally am grappling with not recognizing myself :( it’s been impossible to find any clothes too.

I feel like it’s a much more sustainable option.

Hello!
I’m a student majoring in Software Engineering. I’m starting my third year in a few months and have an internship where I’m learning more about working with an actual team on real-world projects. However, I feel like I need to do more to stand out and have a stronger software background. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for what I should do on my own time to strengthen my skills?

I am trying to figure out how to switch to SWE. I have a masters in civil engineering and have a good background in higher level math. It looks like the better coding boot camps are quite expensive. The alternative is another masters in CS which is the same cost as many boot camps. Any recommendations on picking between a coding boot camp and getting another masters degree in CS? I’m looking to get into the best position possible after getting an education in CS (get a job quick and good pay).

Serious question from a happy software engineer, what do you all love about your work/actually enjoy doing during working hours?

I'll start; I'm privileged enough to have been given the opportunity to work and learn deeply on Linux and Kubernetes, and I get to tinker and play with them all day. Problem solving with them is a "fun" part of my job.

Of course most things aren't roses and sunshine, but I'd love to hear the positive parts of what you are doing, or what you like to do at work.
