Nope
The real effort is not in getting hired, it’s in surviving in there! I’m very happy with the current job I have, gotten thanks to big4 experience.
Good for you that's what supposed to happen
Overrated. All work is getting shipped overseas anyway.
B4 is not that different then other firms especially the larger regional ones. The team your assigned to plays a much bigger role in job satisfaction then the firm does. I know people at B4 and smaller firms who work 70-80 hour weeks and I know some that the most they work are 45-50 hours

I only strive for that when I was applying for my first accounting job. Ended up at RSM. Saw some things. Was terrified of Big 4 after
I’m happy that I made the move to B4 from MM but it’s really the same thing at a different scale. I will emphasize the most important part of any firm is the people. You can work on the coolest/largest clients in the world but if you’re unhappy on your team then you’ll burn out fast.
I enjoy it. It can be a lot of work but I’m happy with my teams and projects
Here's an accountants response for you. It depends.
How do you measure "is it worth it". Are we taking just about the money, the logo on your resume, the clients you get to work on, the people you work with.
What is important to you and what do you hope to get out of it? In the game of life, is the big4 a part that you want to be playing.
For me personally it was worth it for a few years. After that, progression became a series of ambiguous hoops with the need to appropriately show off to higher ups. I was surprised how much that is even the case with accountants.
This kind of stuff can happen anywhere. I have realized for me personally, that is becoming a bigger pain point I will need to address.
Also really love my independence, which works and doesn't work at a big firm.
Hell no, 5 years in at Deloitte and can’t wait to get out
Depends on what you want and what teams you get put on.
I was at a B4 until a few months ago. 9 years total. I would say 100% worth it. Being at the forefront of things like automation and AI has been a massive career boost. The B4 can through money at things like no other and if you raise your hand and have a bit of luck, you can greatly benefit from those resources.
Yes, get the training and networking at big4, stick thru manager, then either pivot to industry or to a midsize for a less insane workload.
Depends on your line of service, the team you get placed on. At PwC I’ve been able to maneuver around into other projects I wanted to be on after year 2 and now I’m much happier and planning to stay until it changes into something I don’t like anymore.
Pretty much same here.
I like my book of clients (for the most part) and I’m only really having to push myself 2-3 months out of the year.
Tbh I’d rather do this than play the “varying degrees of competence” roulette game that seems endemic from the audits I’m on.
Hated audit at pwc but would definitely say the switch to consulting at Deloitte has been worth it. The work is fine but I get paid above market, have 30 days of PTO, and work remotely 99% of the time which are my top priorities. Haven’t found any lateral industry roles that even come close in total comp/PTO especially when you factor in mandatory 3-4 days a week in an office instead of at home.
i have done 2 different big 4 firms, and now 2 different MM firms.
tbh they are all pretty similar. my current firm (MM) is super chill. i like it because i am building my own service line and can bring in experts from different areas.
so even as a manager i am spending most of my time doing BD and then some project planning / scoping
Impossible to answer this unfortunately. What are you looking for in public accounting? Do you want to make partner and stay your entire 30-40 year career? Sure, probably worth it. I’m a partner at BT and am a multi, multi millionaire, wouldn’t change it. If money is not your primary factor and you can live comfortably without top dollar, than you may not want to go through the stress and the pressure and the intensity that the big 4, or any large firm, would bring.
If you have a plan for it. I started at a small firm and my friends started at the Big 4. Most were unemployed after.
Big 4 means nothing in manufacturing which is basically everything.
No, we're really not all striving for that.
