I’ve been ghosted by a few agencies after several rounds of interviews and checked to see if they hired anyone else. They haven’t. I think it’s the combo of continued rolling layoffs, the traditional downturn during the summer and marketing budgets being stagnant until either interest rates get cut or the election (at least that’s what I’m hoping). I feel like we should start a support group at a dive bar 🙋🏻♀️
OP it really may not be that you are doing anything wrong at all. This job market is terrible and I know people who have been searching for a new job for months and not having any luck. Hang in there OP and keep applying, something will come your way.
Hang in there. It’s very hard to find work. What took 3 to 6 months now takes over a year. I wish you luck
I highly doubt you are doing anything wrong OP. Coming from a Recruiter, I think I can speak for everyone on my side of things that there has been a ton of ups and downs the last few years, including this year. Jobs will open and then we’re told to slow down, there’s scope changes, there’s losing biz or not winning new pieces we were relying on. It totally sucks, and I wish I had a way to steer you, but know it’s not you!
I'm sure you've had more pieces of advice than Carter has liver pills, but here's one more. It may be time to think of using your skillset in a non-advertising/marketing environment. During my last job change, I bull-headedly held on for 18 months since I finally accepted that working for less than I used to make is better than not working at all. I took a job in retail sales. Two years later I was able to land another ad-related position and household finances are back where they used to be. As you've been told, never surrender. Just don't go through the process with blinders on. Sales, local government, education, non-profits. Something will pop up, but you may have to get something to provide at least a small paycheck to keep the lights on, the wi-fi paid, and the cell phone service connected.
This is great advice. Any advice on how to stand out in fields you have no experience or education in?
right here with you on this
