What are some of the concerns with joining a boutique firm that was recently acquired by a larger consultancy firm? In general, should they be avoided or can it be a good experience?

That's not a lot to go on, but something fairly general comes to mind. It can be tricky at any company after an acquisition. Jobs will often be consolidated and positions at the acquired company will be eliminated. It's just something to keep in mind, you could be walking into a place that's going to be going through some real reshuffling.

Job security and deal flows. Ask those questions if you are still in the interview process.

My company allows contributions to both traditional (pre-tax) and Roth (post-tax) 401k. Is it better to split my contributions between the two? For example, I could contribute 3% to Roth and 3% to traditional (my employer matches up to 6% total but that can only goes to traditional)

Additional Posts in Investment Banking - IBD

I just graduated from a nontarget in Dec 2020 & am currently interning at PwC before I go back to do my Masters. My initial plan was to accept my full time offer and slowly work my way into IB.

I see postings right now for FT IB analyst programs. Should I even try applying online?

Ik recruiters don’t really read cover letters, but I learned about banking rlly late into college. i’m the daughter of blue collar workers who don’t speak English so I never really knew what jobs were “prestigious”

Interesting all the noise about these PPT, my take:

The pandemic took all the upside of an IB analyst life (client meetings in person, fancy trips, suit up, worshiped at networking events) and left all the juniors with the downside (long hours, monkey-like type of job, aggressive work environment).

Not that the complaints are not sort of legitimate but you may need to revise the decision-making process that led you to accept a return offer. Specially if you were looking for less hours.

Closing in on a corp dev offer. I work at a boutique (~10 ppl) where the analysts/associates carry a lot of weight during deals. Asking for wife who's also in banking. If she got ~$100k in signing bonus in 2019 for 1 year commitment in CA and started FT in July 2020, assuming she leaves before July 2021, can her employer claw back full amount in California? Some say it's much tougher to do so under CA law but wonder if anyone has any insights. Banks won't likely care about analyst signing bonuses, but associate bonus at EB with diversity bonus can be significant. If she quits before, she won't be going to another bank.
