It depends so much on what you really want to move to and what your goal is. There are lots of legal-adjacent options—ops, tech, project management, knowledge management, “innovation” (which means different things at every firm). Slightly further afield you’ve got compliance and risk management. There’s also professional development, DEI, and recruiting. Beyond that, truly the sky is the limit—I have clients who’ve built freelance writing careers, moved into contract management, career services at law schools, teaching, Human Resources. You also have options like the foreign service, public policy roles, nonprofit management. It depends a ton on (1) what you specifically like and (2) what you’re looking for in your next role (and beyond).
Same! Hoping for some good advice!
One thing you might consider is legal adjacent roles and industries. Compliance, litigation tecjnology, and similar. There are also any number of companies that service the legal industry.
And there is always the nonprofit world.
Pretty sure this is how every (or maybe most) litigators feel.
Following. Sounds like we’re all wanting out. The blind leading the blind!
You can sell your experience as a manager and get into things like ops, product management, etc., especially in tech where folks are very open to people retooling their careers. Have seen some entrepreneurial types make the jump successfully. Requires some hustle to make the transition, as almost all non-legal roles do.
I’ve been looking at litigation management roles at large corporations. Some are even jd preferred. They pay decently and skills translate, however you are supervising outside counsel so not responsible to the court etc.

Leave Law Behind is an excellent resource to help you figure out what non-law career(s) suits you & your natural talents.
I say this without snark and purely out of curiosity: how does one go through studying for the LSAT, applying to law school, 3 years of law school, bar prep and passage, and 5 years of practice, only then to "quickly" realize law isn't the right fit?
W/o snark apparently but certainly tone def and out of touch
Okay, so I’m totally new to this. I’ve been an attorney for 3 years. 2 years as a Public Defender, 1 year as Associate General counsel, and before I went to law school I worked at HPE (tech sales as an inside sales rep, very mundane cold calling role). I have friends now that have elevated in their tech roles to make hella money and I was wondering if anyone on here has leveraged their experience as an attorney into a role in the tech industry?
What reasons do you feel law is not the right fit for you? I don’t think you need to be constrained by what the exit opportunities “are”, but rather, should think about what you want to do and then break down the steps that you need to take to get there.
Ive been applying to insurance adjuster roles
