I’d say having a tattoo is pretty normal now, unless it’s on your face. I know many coworkers ranging from staffs to partners who has tattoos in all shapes and sizes.
No impact imo. I’ve only seen personal presentation choices affect promotion when the person has visibly poor personal hygiene or when clothing is way, way inappropriate. For example, someone who doesn’t shower and smells strongly of body odor and whose clothes are visibly dirty. I have also worked with someone that looked like they were getting ready for a night out all the time. Yes, they were great looking, but consistently dressing backless outfits or micro minis is not appropriate in the workplace and impacted their advancement.
Most of my team have visible tattoos. I'd stay away from anything on your face or that could be construed as offensive. Also, at least one of our partners is darn near head-to-toe in tattoos and posts the pictures on LinkedIn. Again, just nothing offensive or on your face.

Doesn’t matter as long as you don’t put some symbol in a visible place that becomes associated with an unsavory crowd (whether or not you belong or share those opinions).
You would not make it very far here. As owners, we have to think about what our wide range of clients could think. It’s not that we have a strict moral code or agenda that restricts it, but rather that it poses a risk in losing face with and /or offending a client. If we can’t see it, we don’t care.
One of the partners at my old firm who looks like Clark Kent had an entire sleeve and I was crushing daily. 😂🤣 Too bad he was married. He also worked out at my CrossFit gym after work and seeing him shirtless was THE icing on the cake.
Lmao 🤣 😂 yep he does.
Know a partner with a full sleeve and another with a large tribute to a deceased daughter on his forearm - both are rainmakers
I work with a gal who has a giant tattoo all over her chest. Never covers it up and has never been an issue.
Nah, in fact it feels like half our people are straight out of prison.
Doesn’t bother me.
Depends on the office. NYC, no one bats an eye. I could imagine it’s slightly different in some offices. But i don’t think people really care anymore
Maybe in Japan because of the deep culture. But the main question is how can tattoo impact the quality of work? If someone has a tattoo all of their body but they have the skills and get work done. Then what’s the problem? Unless it’s a modeling job that has specific requirements.
It no longer matters at this point in time in American society mostly. But like with all things, change to culture can happen so for the long run reasons I would not get visible tattoos personally.
I think tattoos are a bonus. It shows you can sit through having needles stabbed into your skin for a long time and honestly, that's more pleasant than some meetings I've been in.
