Christians escape and flee from temptation and immorality making no provision for the flesh.
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation *will provide the way of escape* also, so that you will be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (emphasis mine)
Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. Romans 13:14
It requires having boundaries in place - for example, no strippers at yours - and staying true to them.
If at a friends/otherwise, also be aware of external factors….like if I was worried about strippers at a friends bachelor party, i either wouldn’t go or would drink almost nothing
Don’t risk it. It’s unwise and unbiblical to linger near temptation (see verses posted in main thread). Though it could have devastating consequences on self and others, the primary issue is rebelling against God’s clear command. cf. Psalm 51:4 David says, after adultery and murder, “Against you, and you only, have I sinned” speaking of God.
Proverbs 27:6–7 (NASB95):
Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
Though skipping could hurt a relationship, denying attendance is a faithful witness to others that you fear God more than man.
Every person has a conscience that is very much tied to your spirit. If your conscience is making you uneasy then you should avoid it. It's very easy to convince yourself that something isn't so bad.
Look at the story of Lot who went to live in Sodom and Gomorrah. He himself didn't necessarily do anything bad by moving there but the environment impacted him and he offered his own Virgin daughters to the crowd to save the angels who came to save him. Even after getting out of there. It seems reasonable to say that negative environment had a very big detrimental affect on his family. Where 1) his wife looked back and turned to salt and 2) his daughters got him drunk and had incest and became pregnant.
I'm not saying Christians should never be in these types of situations but I hope this helps.
Thank you!
If you already don’t want to go to something like a bachelor party, that’s reason enough not to go. You know your friends. If you knew it was just going to be a bunch of guys just eating steak and watching sports or going camping or whatever else, you would likely be much less uneasy and perhaps be excited to go with no worries. (Or you’d think, “eh I’d rather stay home and read but I want to make sure good old Roger had a blast!” without having any moral concerns.) Since you are worried about it, that seems a good enough reason to say, “sorry, that weekend doesn’t work for me.”
But what if they change the weekend for us?
