Prosecutor and public defender would be in court a lot. Not sure how many deps they do.
Criminal defense or prosection. So much more fun than other slow moving areas of law.
Med mal in a non-tort-reform state will get you in court a ton.
Doing civil litigation in an ID firm is usually where you will get a lot of depo and court experience. I’m surprised you’re not at least getting to depos in L&E. Is the carrier settling cases really early? Or the partner not letting you handle?
Also in L&E and also do a lot of depos, argue in court maybe every other month (sometimes more, sometimes less). Agree that you’ll likely get less admin agency work and more traditional litigation most other places
Personal injury/medmal and civil rights (ie police brutality, not workplace). My friend in wage and hour does a lot of depositions but is not in court as much (most cases settle). Commercial litigation can provide some opportunities but the higher end the client the more likely they are to want their big $$ to pay for the partner to take that depo or argue that motion, so as an associate you’d need to be at a smaller firm for commercial litigation to provide more ample opportunities. Honestly, if you’re willing to go govt, my friend in the state AG’s office gets the most hands on civil litigation experience of any of my classmates.
ID? Or criminal
