I get calls for python but they demand scraping & webdev(selenium/bs/django/flask) which I have no interest in.

I’m currently at a studio that has been good to me. They took a chance and allowed me to change career paths. They gave me numerous opportunities that lead me to now, being the head of a department. The big guys at the top has expressed they could see me as the guy to run the company one day but it’s all talk and possibilities right now. I’ll have to wait for now. Does anyone work at a firm where legal assistants don't do legal assistant things? For example, I have to do my scheduling and calendaring. I have to upload documents to our file management system. This morning, a name partners assistant didn't realize the name partner had a depo and didn't confirm it. This is how this firm as been for decades and it's incredibly frustrating to work this way. It's so hard to not stress over this daily.

Everyone I needed final approvals from to get these expert retention agreements signed off has decided to ignore me on literally the day our disclosures are due.

Chicago personal injury/med mal 1-3 year associates: how much is your base salary before commission?

Realizing that even though I enjoy litigation, I have a really hard time with the amount of hours we work leading up to trial. Four days out from trial and I am exhausted/on the verge of illness from lack of sleep. How do people do this their entire career?

Any advice on breaking into international arbitration? For background, I’m a 6th year litigation associate (general commercial) and I’m feeling bored with my work. I really took an interest in international arbitration during law school (participated in Vis moot, etc.) but didn’t actively pursue it after graduating. Am I being completely unrealistic by wanting to switch?

Any tips on how to bring in clients to the firm? I do L&E and one of the things my firm goes over during annual evals is whether we bring in business, even for third year associates.

It may seem obvious, but in my experience partners value trial experience over anything else, so get it however you can. For example, my firm will favor a former prosecutor who has seen the courtroom a lot but has no civil litigation experience (not even a depo) over a seasoned associate who has only second chaired cases with a partner but hasn’t tried a case. Even trying a case and losing gives you credibility at my firm because you still did it.
