When I joined I had no idea what kind of military policy we had. Deloitte offers 18 months of diff, doesn’t matter what kind of orders (they don’t count my BAH either, just base pay). I still collect leave during that time and put into my 401k. I hear it resets the first day I come back to the company (not sure I want to test that). Any leave that expired at the end of the year while on orders I get back when I return. I’m sure my bonuses/promotions have been jacked up by being in orders but I don’t care. No one at the company bothers me while I’m on a military LOA.
I usually will jump on orders/days during gaps in projects so that my utiltilization doesn’t get affected.
Honestly it is the only reason why I stick around the company, but I’m def thankful because it is one less stress to worry about when I get orders.
I know a guy at Lockheed, they apparently do the full five years ( like you have a pot of days totaling five years). not sure if it’s full pay or diff.
Yeah I wouldn’t expect it to be easy at all - I’ve only met two reservists at BCG during recruiting lol. One of them was IRR.
I think in general trying to pursue a successful career in both places involves an incredible amount of trade off and sacrifice. I’ve heard the things that most often get sacrificed are professional advancement, personal relationships, mental health etc
I got 6 months of diff pay (it was a 6 month activation) and bonus was same as if I’d been working full time (though promotion timeline was paused those six months).
Bcg does up to 18 months of differential pay according to the policy. Most I’ve done is two months straight though.
Accenture: 26 weeks of differential salary continuation and benefit coverage. Can be extended beyond the 26 weeks for (a) active duty wartime commitments by executive order or (b) at the discretion of ACN US leadership for whatever reason.
The system has been subtracting my time at level, so in theory I'd have to work extra to make up time lost.... but I am told I will be given a fair shot at annual performance reviews based on my productive time.
KPMG is 12 months - about to have to use it soon so we’ll find out if there are any hidden strings
Most of the bigger places usually have the military LOA policy on their internal portal for someone to look up. Ours is located in the same section as our other leave of absence policies
Yeah I’m sure it’s there. I’m wondering more along the lines of how it’ll impact staffing and promotion prospects etc
@P1: that sounds about right in terms of promotion/tenure - I’m guessing it could do anything from 1-2 years of setback based on timing on activation (could potentially miss a full cycle resulting in 2 years delay).
I think staffing is really a crapshoot - I’ve heard folks have trouble getting on a project once they have orders because the engagement manager doesn’t want to lose a resource partway through the project so I have seen people take massive hits to their utilization but it is what it is.
