Ignore my tag as I haven’t used Glassdoor in quite some time, however I’ll not the job market is incredibly difficult right now and has been for a good while. Up until recently, I was applying and had massive difficulty getting a new job. I’d apply and I’d say out of every 6-7 applications I’d be able to schedule an interview yet every interview would always come back to 2 things: we’ve chosen another candidate or I wouldn’t hear back at all. I specifically remember applying and being told i was a great candidate and to look out for a phone call which never came.
I eventually started working somewhere about 6 months ago that had such a high turnover that I started looking again because there was no security and with 2 kids it was impossible to know if and when I would have time with them. They also were incredibly dishonest and wanted numbers at the expense of customers and were not concerned with how it made them feel.
I am a Christian and I prayed every single day for a job opportunity that would focus on being honest but that also would give time with my kids. I landed a job almost a month ago that not only aimed at that honesty but allows me to have time with my kids and an increase in pay that’s salary, which is quite unheard of in this industry.
In short keep your head up, it’s difficult getting to a point of finding something but patience and perseverance help quite a bit. I don’t understand fully why the job market has tanked so much but the stress of those out of work is multiplied quite a bit when they continue to be out of work longer and eventually makes people feel worthless and unappreciated

I have seen how demoralising this gets. I would focus on showing structure in your time, projects, volunteering, courses, or contract work. It is less about the gap and more about the story you tell.
You're doing what you're supposed to be doing: focusing all your energy on applying. The job market is rough, so this prolonged unemployment likely has nothing to do with you. With that said, have you made any tweaks to your resume in that time? If you're not getting calls or interview requests, it's probably worth doing if you haven't already. I customize mine for each job using Chat GPT. The pro plan or whatever it's called is like $29.99/month, but you can probably get everything you need done just using the free plan.

Absolutely agree .. my brother had a similar thing when he got made redundant... It was ridiculous... He started questioning his worth and kept saying I am useless... Until he found a job
Don't be hard on yourself, it sounds like you're doing what you should be doing. The big obstacle you're facing is that this current job market is just awful. A lot of companies are wary about the economy and are just leaning against hiring people. And people with jobs aren't leaving them, so there just aren't many openings. In this economy you have to be on the top of your game, so it's good to work on your resume, and the important thing is to just be persistent.
You aren't alone. I'm going on 2 months without much traction, and many others have posted about being unemployed for 8 months or more. All are on pretty successful career tracks, so it has nothing to do with social status or the ability to get certifications and what not.
There are more job seekers than jobs right now and we all gotta eat, so well-qualified people are taking lesser roles to pay bills, which ripples all the way down to minimum wage jobs.
Have you gone to a Workforce Solutions office in your city and asked for an appt with a job counselor? Also, there should be job fairs near where you live (if in a city.) There are free online resources to get a certificate in different areas (Microsoft, Accounting/payroll, language, etc) that you can do with your time. Check with a community college nearby and ask if they have a job fair you could attend (they may not check school IDs) and show up dressed nicely with a dozen copies of your resume (I’m assuming you cut/pasted your resume to ChatGPT for review.) Hang in there and get busier. You’ll get one.
Don't give up. This too shall pass.same here. I apply and send my resume to lots of employer and I didn't hear a call from them. Job market nowadays are tight. I live in ontario
