What do you all say as your reasons for leaving your PA job? I have an interview tomorrow for a senior tax accountant for a large bank. Of course the main reason I want to leave is because of the busy season hours, but I don’t want to come across as lazy or not a hard worker, I just want to be able to have a life again! Also not sure how much overtime this new position would require. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

I left because I was tired of audit work. I wanted to take more ownership over my work and create my own work product.

I was in audit, but said I wanted more knowledge of one company / industry rather than a summary of multiple every year. Also to see how a single business makes changes throughout the year in response to events or results from each month of quarter.

likehelpful

Keep answer about looking for growth and learning new skills/competencies in bank tax accounting. If they extend a written offer that’s when you can ask about the hours and busy periods before accepting or declining.

like

What I said was, once I became a senior I felt had learned enough about completing audits within multiple industries that I felt ready to move to the next step of my career. What I actually meant was that I hated the longer hours, busy season, being short staffed, and being underpaid

likehelpful

I mean I’ve been honest in my interviews and said work life balance was the biggest factor. I’m leaving because of the hours, so I was to know that I’m leaving for a company that isn’t going to do the same to me. I also mentioned growth and development and all that jazz, but don’t be afraid to be honest.

like

Yes, because if you don’t say something you’ll be stuck in the same position you were in PA

like

Are you really leaving PA simply and only because of the hours? That is, if you held everything else constant, but reduced the hours during busy season, then you would be stay?

D1, I think most people would stay in PA if the hours didn’t consume lives. Plus PA is becoming a year round busy season.

My interview got over on June 29th right after the interview the recruiter called me and told I’m selected and they will be sending the offer letter. He mentioned there will be a delay in releasing the offer letter since merging is happening right now. few days back I sent a mail to HR.. but no reply. and after that I received a mail stating they are no longer considering me for this position. Does this happen to anyone else ?

Interviewing with a small (50 people) boutique firm in a management position. They are in an industry I have 10 years of experience plus I have 5 years management consulting experience in B4 firm. Assuming the pay and potential bonus are reasonable what kind of challenges would I be in for? I already understand this would be a risk to join and help them grow but if I were successful I think it could be very rewarding.

You did an interview and your interviewer apologized that the travel time 180minutes was much higher than 30minutes scheduled time for the interview and that It could have been done remotely, but she has to follow the process. I am still waiting for feedback though.

Is this just a humane demonstration?

Name the most ridiculous micro-managing by partners that you experience.

I’ll go first: MP told me that on initial emails, I am always to start with “Hello [name],” but after the initial email, I am not to address her by name again in the same thread. Initial greeting can only be “Hello [name] ” because just first name is too brisk and a “Hi [name]” is too informal. Had a 5 minute, in depth conversation as to why she prefers it this way…

I posted this somewhere else before I remembered that I am in this bowl :) so, I changed jobs 6-7 months ago and I am realizing it is not a good fit. Leadership seem to not want to hear the truth so people tell them what they want to hear and if you don’t middle management gets pissed at you. I am seriously thinking about looking somewhere else. My question is how do you answer the “why are you looking to leave” question without bad mouthing your current company?

I accepted a $115K base salary, 13% bonus, 10k sign on bonus (scientist supervisor) job and two weeks later, got a $135K base, 17% bonus, and 15K sign on bonus (Senior scientist role) offer from another company. Should I accept the new offer ? How do I tell the previous company about this? Also, I’ve already negotiated with the first company and the $115K base is the negotiated salary. I really do not prefer one company over the other. They’re both great! I’m very confused here. TIA🙏
