If you’re in-house at an agency, that’s the difficult game…
You as a post producer will be evaluated on how you keep a project on time and budget, and protecting your markup/overhead. Your agency producer wants to get the work done and hit their budget targets. The head of studio/head of production know that we ultimately need to serve the needs of agency clients, and taking a “hit” on markup on a project will ultimately help the relationship. They need to make that call, and see the forest through the trees.
Working internally should mean we can do more for less. Lately I’ve found in-house to be markedly more expensive , less flexible, and a worse overall experience than working with external partners.
