My opinion: if you can cover your financial obligations and still have money left over to save, then priority is work/life balance.
Work life balance rarely exists in engineering. So I decided to go after the dollars, invest, and then gtfo early abmnd retire.
I wise man one said "Why not both?"

Haha fair
Pay first, then go with a balance after debts are paid / extra money is saved up
Work life balance. I used to work for a company that had amazing pay, but I lived at work pretty much. I left that job and now I'm currently employed at a different company where the pay is not that great, but the pace is much slower and I've never put in more than 40 hours a week. I've been at this company for years and it pays the bills and leaves me with extra money to spend on whatever I want. It helps that I don't have any debt at all, so I am able to save up.
Pay at the beginning, then balance

Love it!
Pay to an extent, but after a certain point definitely work life balance.

I’m with you for sure
Work life balance. Work so you can live do not live so you can work. You can’t take the money with you and the company will let you go in a second if they need to. I challenge you to find a single person with a terminal prognosis that says “if I could change one thing, I wish I had worked more.” Enjoy family and friends, enjoy life - you only have one. You’ll have many jobs.
