Is there anything you wish you knew about civil engineering before deciding on your degree?

I would like to know if the civil engineer has possibilities in the field of architectural design, I know very well that the design is done by the architect and that the foundational elements necessary for that design are developed by the civil engineer, but I am interested in doing both things as a civil engineer.

Does civil engineering have a field in the space discipline?

How influential is a civil engineer in the work of an architect? i.e. who has the final say?

Besides urban construction, in what other areas can a civil engineer work?

I would have liked to know more about what kind of skills are required for the different specialties.

There's a lot less "designing from scratch" than you'd think. Part of the job is being able to implement common designs and solutions to your particular project

How important networking is for landing a great job. If you dedicate some time as an undergrad to build up some connections it'll go a long way once you graduate

I don’t want to miss the right person because of my bias, so im wondering how many healthcare related AMs have healthcare/clinical experience… thanks in advance!

I've been working at my current job for about a year now and I'm finally beginning to understand how the company works.

It's not easy, though. It's a small company, which means there are only a few of us in each department. There is no dedicated training team, so we all have to learn new things on the fly through trial-and-error or by asking our coworkers for help. The management team seems to be pretty hands off when it comes to project management and project direction, so it's up to us engineers to figure out how we want to spend our time and who we want to work with.
