Quick qstn - I'm receiving HRA of 24075 from my employer but I would like dhow the rent paid as 96k p.a (while filing ITR). Even if I do so, I was only able to get exemption of 24075 from gross. Checking if we can speak to payroll department to increase Actual HRA since I'm actually paying more rent than compared. Will I be able to do so ?Deloitte Newco EY Accenture Genpact KPMG

I am curious about the economics of this practice. How much gross revenue does your firm generate from your work each year?
Pro
1 YOE, I was paid 60k base, 5% commission of prelit cases settled, 10% in litigation. In 10 months I made 110k, and I slowed down and made only $125 at the end of the year. This wasn’t bad for 1 YOE as most firms were only paying 80-90k. This was on the west side in a LCOL area.
I actually read a post in here earlier where someone was asking if 55k was a good salary with five years of experience. I couldn't believe they got such a lowball offer. That is the salary I was making my first year as a paralegal if that tells you anything.
My last pay structure was for a first year associate - 60k base + 5% on all cases I worked on and 1/3 on all cases I brought in; in reality, it was just 60k base because the owners felt that I wasn’t “ready” to handle cases on my own, so the cases I did work on and settled I didn’t get my promised 5%. The cases I did bring in they only paid me a portion - much less than 1/3 - because they said the cases didn’t settle for much and “had a lot of costs”.
This was at a Southern California firm, just me and the 2 owners and some support staff; around 400 cases at the peak, 80% in litigation and I was responsible for all active cases in litigation along with the owners. I wasn’t allowed to use any of the support staff and was the person who always got in trouble when support staff messed up, because “the buck stops at the attorney”🙄🙄.
Left that firm and started my own after a year and never looked back. Now I just pay myself around 10-20% of my net profits as needed to cover my personal expenses and keep the rest in the business to have cash on hand when a case goes into lit and has a lot of costs.
Base 70
Lit (only) 5-10% depending on fees I bring in
Referrals 50%
Gross: 90k (to date)

1 YOE and salary of $105k total salary in HCOL city. Did not even know when job searching that other structures, like base pay + commission, were an option for new lawyers. Is just having a salary unusual in PI?
I’m in a similar situation. I have a similar yearly salary but a set end of year bonus not based on anything.
4 YOE
No base
20% of fees, extra 5% for self-generated
case load 90-120, maybe 20-25% go into lit
Last year I got a 1% of firm fees bonus but that's "discretionary" per senior partner
southern-midwest (very low cost of living area)
Can I work at your firm? That sounds amazing
