Most good jobs are not 9-5. I keep telling my wife this…works at a hospital and always says she’s so stressed cuz she can’t get all her work done within the 40 hours. I try to tell her to keep up with things like emails after work so they don’t pile up and so you’re not as stressed. Takes just a little bit of time each evening and helps out greatly. She’s paid like 130k in LCOL for her job so not exactly small. Enough to warrant having to potentially work more than the 40 hours from time to time but she disagrees. Well, I gave my two cents and offered a solution, honey lol.
how'd the response to that solution go, hoss?

So glad I left public accounting. At my office people start like at 9:30 and are done by 4:30. Plus they take like .5-1hr at lunch. It's beautiful
Of course a Director would say this 🤣🤣
Y’all getting off work at 6????
I was just told yesterday that for December it is now expected 50 hour weeks sooo 8-6 😅
As an ex BDO yes this sounds right, work like a dog for no reward. 9 years of my life ill never get back
My last position was like 9:30-4:30 most of the time. Omg I miss that I dunno why I agreed to take on this new role. Now it’s like 8:30-6:30 everyday and worse some days.
When the hours are 9-6, and your boss leaves between 5 and 5:30 at the latest, why stay until 6? We took turns for someone to stay and answer phones. Btw no work of any significance got done between 5 and 6.
lol this is the wrong place to look for sympathy for working a half day.

I work only 10-4 these days, but I'd like to be 9-5. Some places have it worse and I'm not salaried sigh
You want less money? If there is no work, which happens too often then there's no hours to work friend. I'm just stuck here atm
Dang, I’m so happy I established boundaries early on. I couldn’t imagine that being the normal
Have to get that utilization up!
the goal is 420% utilization each week. you'd think the slackers would understand that goal well
When I was a senior, it was 6:30 am to 7:30 pm at the earliest, with 9:30 pm being the norm!
Far, far better and I love the work. You have to be a little crazy to truly survive and succeed in this profession.
Ahhh. The public accounting puppy mills
Trying working 8-10pm 😑
Feels like you are missing a good portion of the day that could be used for work.
More like 7:30am-6:30pm
I just switched a job from 9-5 to 8-5. I thought that additional hour wouldn't matter since I used to stay to 6 or 7pm at old job anyway. But, it actually gets me really bad and made me think if I had made the wrong move.
Our historical philosophy on work weeks is definitely on the table for some changes. It is a big topic and one that is difficult to navigate as a small business. My business partner is 30 years younger than me and boy do we have a different opinion on what FT means. :) :{
