Is it frowned upon to jump from big 4 to big 4? Or any firm to firm for that matter

And now you ended up at BDO……cautionary tale

likefunnysmart

Just be honest in interviews when they ask. Tell them you follow the cash

likefunny

Frowned upon by who? People do it all the time so do what’s best for you.

like

Happens all the time. Of course your current firm will frown upon it, but they would have no issue taking someone from another firm if they could

Guy I started with has officially worked for all four firms. I’m an S1…

like

You kids with your B4. When I started it was B8. I don’t know anyone that got all 8

Who cares if they frown as long as you have a smile on your face?

Musical firms is basically a public accounting party game.

If you want to do the partner thing, you’ll have to land somewhere eventually, but at the lower levels it’s normal.

like

now a days, fairly normal. Years back was a huge red flag. That said if I am interviewing someone with a few years exp and already have multiple jumps, it is somewhat concerning. Too much time and effort for training for someone who may not be around after 6 months. But like I said, almost normal now

like

Not frowned upon. It’s a candidates market and it’s understandable that you’ll look at other opportunities. If you do it multiple times, I would start to wonder though.

But be sure to understand what exactly will change. When I was at the big 4, one year after I was pissed about comp, I interviewed at another big 4. I was pleasantly surprised with how honest they were with me. It was less of an interview than a decision they gave me. They told me that they’d love to have me and I’ll receive a nice pay bump as that’s what they need to do to attract people to switch. But that pay premium relative to my peers would diminish over time. And from a development perspective, you’ll be put behind the people that have been with us for a long time as we want to reward the people that have been with us for longer and you’ll need to prove yourself from scratch. It made me realize that my situation wasn’t that bad (I was well thought of in the group, highly rated, etc.) and it didn’t make sense for me to switch. I had a lot more to build off where I was rather than starting anew.

like

I’ve hopped a couple times

Does it worth it? What was your experience like with work and colleagues and if you don’t mind - did you think you’ve got much better pay after several jumps?

like

I’ve worked with a few managers/SM who have worked at 2-4 Big 4 lol. I don’t think it’s a big deal these days

To your employer, yes. Everyone else, no.

I did it several times, I went:

Local firm
Regional firm
Regional firm
National firm
Deloitte

Switched from tax to audit when I went to the national firm

Honestly, the ideal situation is to work in one PA firm then go to industry but it no industry hiring manager held my multiple firms against me

Gotta think about 401k vesting & any pension benefit so there is some advantage to staying out for a minute

No.

I did it. Best decision ever. Huge pay increase, the experience I wanted, WLB, and WFH. Go where you are recognized for your work.

Hello, in my previous organisation I worked in development domain (Oracle IAM Tool and Java)and my post was software Engineer, i joined Wipro as project Engineer in April 2022 and was assigned non technical project as an analyst.

I fought my way hard to get released from the project. However my designation is changed as Analyst. Should I ask for change in designation as I know that analyst is non-technical profile? Would my designation impact my future role as well?

Looking for some advice on a couple of offers I have.

The first offer is for an Account Executive position at a smaller company with a base of $50k and another $20k in OTE.

The second offer is for a BDR position at a larger and faster growing company with a base of $60k and another $20k in OTE. Also some stock options but they aren’t public yet.

I have 2 YOE as a BDR and think I could succeed in either position. Both have hybrid work set ups. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated! Thanks.
