Second one 100%. First one is just a wake up call.
Thanks for the insight!
Definitely not a “coach out”. Some call it a “PIP-light”. Basically saying, “hey you’re doing well but think you need to nail down these couple of areas to get you back on track”. The next round if you’re still hitting same Dev areas THEN they may put you on PIP, and THEN if you still don’t improve, you may get coached out. But, everybody I know who got this improved their way out of it by the next round. It was mostly tied to being relatively new to the firm and just ramping a bit slower than expected on firm’s way of doing stuff. Definitely reach out to peers, mentors and people you trust to figure out how to work on your dev areas. Also take opportunity to go to trainings and keep practicing when you can. I would also bring up during project PD kickoff. Ask to get more reps on these areas and that you’re trying to work on them so if SC/manager can help you, you’d appreciate it. Worst thing you can do is avoid it. You got this!
On a tracking with DP you can show improvement and end out ok on the other side. A true PIP is essentially final, and you have to show great leaps in improvement to get out of it.
A true PIP as some one else said is a way to legally cover them, and gives you 3 months to work on finding a new job.
