What happens to my Amex Rewards points if I switch to a company that doesn't use the Amex Corporate Card? Do I need to transfer the points before my card closes?

Can I use AA advantage points to purchase stuff other than Tickets? I am at a United Hub so I most likely won't be flying AA again..
