I’m at K&E and I don’t know what the RAT group is
Nice I think there’s a training coming up soon with some of the structured finance people that are doing oil and gas work
Enthusiast
Extremely busy and understaffed all of the time. Many very difficult personalities.
echo this. a lot of turnover as well.
It can be pretty busy like others have said. The RAT group sometimes gets staffed as "specialists" for deals that a regular M&A leads which can be nice for taking a break from leading a deal. However, most deals will be led by RAT and require you to run the various docs and coordinate with all of the relevant specialist teams. There's a pretty good variety in types of matters. Upstream M&A, midstream M&A, ABS transactions, commercial agreement work, etc. The more associates we have, the easier it gets for all of us to take turns covering for vacation/out of office time, so would love to have you join the team if you're interested.
Mentor
They all seem to get along well socially/interpersonally. I’ve never known them to not be busy, which is good for experience and job security but obviously means working too much sometimes. It’s essentially just M&A for a specific industry so most of the same pros and cons. Smaller group so tighter nit feel but also less staffing flexibility in the free market because less people. Amazing exits within energy, much less so in other industries but I’d have to imagine they still have a better argument for non-energy in-house than a specialist or litigator.
Basically it’s the same as any other industry-specific M&A subgroup at another firm. Do you want to do a ton of oil, all day every day? It’s perfect! Do you want to do NOT oil? Well then don’t join a group that only does oil lol.
Good K&E office overall, separate from RAT specifically.
