This. At most places as you move up, a higher percentage of the comp is bonus/equity.
Just making up numbers but that manager could have zero equity with the senior director having $50k.
Those of us who’ve been in the game for a while started way lower salary, so while we’ve probably % increased more than the younger generation from our starting salary, the net number is lower. Sad reality.
I was just looking at everyone else’s salary journey and thinking, god, everyone who graduated from college in the last decade makes so much money. I remember having to start at the bottom and scrape by and it was a big deal to hit $50k but there are people under 30 making way over $100k now. I would totally accept $105k as a manager, oof.
Client side, people tend to stay in the same roles for several years, so I’m not super surprised by that? Maybe the manager feels low.
