When I ran new business at an agency I went to a GDS/cMO event and it was a total waste of money. Go to the ANA conferences and just speak to people.
Yes; done Richmond & GDS. Big difference between the two; GDS was extremely well-run. Key is to negotiate the rate down; participating agencies paid $20k; $40k; $60k for same event. Attendee list completely turned over from early discussions to actual attendance. No shortage of companies doing these events; do your homework. As a caveat, didn’t close business but more due to fit & budget requirements on our end; we did have good conversations with great brands.
I agree with Chief Revenue Officer 1. It’s bullshit and you pay for CMOS to have a vacay (if they even go - I know one personally who happened to be in a pitch deck I got. And when i asked him he said hell no. But they had him listed by name.
Never, but don’t let that dissuade you from giving it a try. And report back, please 🙂
We did a couple and found them to be a waste of time and money. We went into them prepared and focused. Came out with zilch. Most client participants seem to be tire kickers or there for the free stay.
