I teach AP Calculus; we bounce back and forth between conceptual deep big ideas, and grinding out some heavy mechanics.
When kids begin to make the connections and use mechanics to bail themselves out of a conceptual issue or the reverse, I wanna scream YES! From some mountain top.
It happened today, and frankly I can't muster a complaint, it was so freaking awesome.
Favorite: kid
Least favorite: everything else
Favorite - Watching students grow
Least - Teachers ignoring district rules to implement their own, teachers that undermine others in front of students, teachers that dress like students, teachers that complain in front of their students rather than be professionals…soap box done
Thanks. I do, I just mentioned because it’s true. I don’t search these issues, they are brought to my attention when I get the eye rolls from what I do or mention at PD’s, I get the issues told to my by my students. They do what they do, I do what I do.
My favorite thing is establishing relationships and bonds with students and seeing them progress and learn throughout the year leaving them in a better place that they were when they started . The thing I hate the most is the additional things that continue to be added your plates that we have no say over , it has turned from being teacher to be everything else as well
Favorite thing is the schedule…least favorite is writing IEPs.
Fave: when a kid gets that I am tough on them because I am helping them become the best they can be. Had this yesterday with a kid who I have been riding all year to slow down, do things properly, and your grade will rise. She finally got it and was really proud of her grade and her work. It’s like a 👊 from the world.
Least: Admin who just can’t get it together.
How can I turn off notifications for this group
That light bulb moment when it finally sinks in. Whether it is the class lesson or the life lesson,it's that one second when they light up, their eyes widen, they make a little gasp, and you can tell. That one second when you, as a teacher, can tell you have finally made a difference, you got through.
With all the social media, gang issues, neglectful parents, anything we can do.
And my teaching is not limited to K12
