Q: “What experience do you have at avoiding doing any real work?"
Realize I didn’t answer your question. Questions I would be ready for
1) your story
2)interest in ECM (know macro movements in the market, be prepared to speak high level of a stock you like and why)
3) Interest and basic understanding of finance
4) Ability to work longer hours than BO.
ECM is significantly different than PE, you don’t need modeling skills in ECM
Good luck! Did you find the role thru networking? Also, are you considering accepting analyst role?
Good luck.. did it myself!
^ha, I shouldn’t laugh at that but it’s too funny
Yes & probably, with (conservative) bonus it would be step up in comp
@GS1 how did you do it?
I’m not in ECM, but I would try to speak intelligently about a few ipos the firm as done. Read the s-1s, understand the key marketing points, look at how the stock traded the first few days. That is the gist of the job
what is your BO role rn?
@OP I’m also in BO and want to jump to FO. At Assoc level why is there a need to downgrade level to Analyst? I thought Assoc vs. Analyst is not a huge difference. VP is where it gets a little more senior. Or is this due to comp? If thats the case, can you ask to get paid at analyst level but maintain your assoc status?
I’m not in PE, but tons of my friends are. I would also be familiar with modeling skills/drivers specific to the firm you are interviewing for (i.e. PE firm w/ focus on upstream/midstream oil and gas and knowing specific drivers)
Sorry don’t want to distract from the original question...but is it possible/have you ever seen someone jump from CIB middle office/PM role to PE?
What technical skills are required for ECM?
