My concern is being 30 years old, accepting the in-house gig with my 4% annual raise and that being it. Although there’s something to be said about a very cushy job
Why do you think the plaintiff one is more stressful? I’ve done both and think defense is the worst. Plaintiff you can make a lot of money. Think about what is your priority. Money or Cush/comfort
Compared to in-house ID, you have actual client stresses, and undoubtedly being the one who has the burden of proof inherently comes with a little more stress. With the ID job, you’re a glorified paper pusher. No billables to meet. There are no fires to put out
Pro
Plaintiff > ID. Based on the numbers you put, you’ll make almost double while working maybe 10 hours more a week at a job where you’re learning new things & don’t really have a ceiling for your comp.
The stresses of Plaintiff side PI can mostly be mitigated with good time management skills & being able to set clear boundaries with clients.
In house for a carrier is different than your average ID, which I heard no billable right op? Also, I heard the WLB in house for a carrier is nice. I know in house ID typically makes lower than the standard YOE. However, 8 YOE, I’ve seen posts from in house ID at 225k. You definitely have room to negotiate a higher salary. I would counter both offers. Counter 220k for the in house ID, and 150k base for PI. Is it a flat 5% for pre lit and lit? I would either negotiate 10% , with 125k base, or 150k base with same split.m based on your YOE.
