I paid off $297K in student loans in 31 months. Initially, I was only making minimum payments, but everything changed when I discovered Dave Ramsey's 7 Baby Steps to Financial Freedom. Motivated by his principles, I got serious about tackling my debt and committed to an aggressive repayment strategy, making sacrifices and staying disciplined to achieve my goal. I was debt-free for a bit until buying a house....
I was just coming here to say this is really impressive and gives me hope because I have nearly 200k in student loan debt to pay off and it seems like I will never get it paid off.
Congratulations OP! I feel you because I just celebrated the victory of being done with student loan debts last week too! New year, new me. I realized that while education is invaluable, it's essential to weigh the cost against potential career earnings. If I could do it all over, I'd have been more strategic in my borrowing and more aggressive in my repayment strategy from day one. It's been a tough journey, but finally being debt-free feels like I can breathe again and truly start building my future.
If I knew then what I know now! I would absolutely have done things so much differently. It isn’t a regret for getting a college education, but I really underestimated how much money it was and how life can get in the way of your best laid plans. I kick myself a lot over it still just something I wished I would have done differently.
