What's a good starter electric saw for cutting lumber at home? Would prefer it be portable since I don't have a fixed workspace yet.

I’d buy a used hitachi/metabo compound miter saw. The projects you are describing are all using dimensional lumber and don’t require rip cuts. Given this, a compound mitersaw is your best friend.

If you get serious about the book cases, then a circular saw would come in handy, but to be honest you could get most of the cutting done for you for free at HomeDepot.

The compound miter saw is the single most used tool in my shop

What are you wanting to cut and how much of it?

Making raised beds and starting some bookcases. Thickest piece would be 4x4 posts. Everything else 2x6 or smaller. I'm open to corded or cordless.

I would say go with a nice 7-1/4 inch circular saw. I’m a Dewalt guy but I love my Makita. Get a nice 60 to 80 tooth blade as well (really like my Diablo) and you’ll be able to do a lot.

Additionally, I would suggest getting a saw track as well.

Currently going through some negations on an internal role. I’m currently at 88k and they offered me 100k for a position that requires a lot more work. Do you guys think it’s easier to land a higher salary when applying externally rather than internally? Also this is for a territory sales management role. They stated 120k+ is extremely high for that role. What do you guys think? Playing the game?

Applied to a job and was referred. My referral let me know ~5 days after I applied that they received an email that my application was passed to the hiring team. That was three weeks ago and haven’t heard anything from Google and my referral hasn’t heard anything. Job posting is still live. This is for a strategic initiatives role. Within norms this is moving slow? Should I expect to receive an email saying they passed?

Anyone here own a saw stop PCS or a Powermatic PM2000? Ive been setting aside money in my woodworking slush fund for a good cabinet saw to replace my contractor saw, and I’m intrigued by the SS’s hotdog sensing technology. Eager to hear opinions from anyone who owns one of the two saws.

Recommendations for a book, website, or YouTube channel for beginner woodworking projects? I have a very good contractor table saw, orbital sander, and a few other basic tools...and would like to tackle a few projects to see if woodworking is something I really enjoy. Any Black Friday deals out there?

I’m looking for recommendations for a bench top bandsaw. I’m willing to invest in a nicer one down the line, but right now I want to keep it under $300. I mostly see Powertec, Shop Fox, or Wen. There is a $375 Grizzly I’d consider if it’s way better than the others. Any thoughts?

I can't wait for it to cool off so I can try my hand at making furniture. Too hot to work in my shop right now. Planning to make this out of wood.

Wanted to share some advice for anyone looking at track saws. I just bought the bare WEN 6.5” unit ($145.29) and paired it with the Powertec guide rail set ($119.89) and came away with a solid setup at a (comparatively) cheap price ($265).

I was considering the Makita ($585) or Dewalt ($790) setups since those are my normal go-to brands, but couldn’t stomach the cost.

Highly recommend it!

Just got commissioned to build a massive dining room table 🤩🤩🤩

Using this as an excuse to pick up a big ‘ol bandsaw, biscuit joiner, moar clamps & a dust collection system! Taking a week off to build the majority of it and then will finish it up in the evenings.
