To those at V25 firms, how do you view your London office in terms of the quality of work we get and overall importance to the firm? Like is there a perception of us being a step down or ancillary to the big leagues of NYC or not? There’s generally a perception here that L&W and K&E are the only US firms where London can even begin to compete with stateside in terms of generating l work organically but would be interesting to know what you all think? There is a partner that, without fail, calls on Fridays after 6pm anytime I am staffed with him. It’s extremely frustrating since his calls are usually non-urgent and I make it a point to check in early in the day to address anything. Any advice?

Real estate / real estate finance associates, is everyone still crazy busy or are you noticing a bit of a slow down? I’m at an Am Law 20 and was crazy this year through most of the summer, but have seen a pull back in workload / deal flow the past few weeks.

Random partner asked a litigation-related question to a partner I frequently work with (i’m a transactional associate). My partner cc’d me and said for me to briefly look. Asked the library. They got me a great case. Sent it back. Now the random partner is asking for more cases in another circuit.

I haven’t done caselaw research since 1L and this isn’t even my practice… wtf do I do (I am fully utilized in my normal work and have a few deals closing soon…)

How do you manage NOT getting overwhelmed with multiple workstreams due in a short time period? I’m a first-year who’s being told to make edits to several ongoing docs TODAY in advance of next week’s signing (fine) and have communicated capacity to ALL deal teams… but literally they keep adding work, and telling me basically “Understood - need this asap, will only take five mins to do.” (HA) It’s getting to a point where I’m making sloppy mistakes because they want things like yesterday.

Does your firm let you take 28-30 December off? Many of my team members won’t be working those days and I decided last minute that I’d like to travel somewhere between Christmas and the New Year.

Any Atomic Habit readers here? I’m brainstorming identity-based habits for two things I want to change:

-I want to bill more hours, so my goal is to become the type of person who bills at least 8 a day
-I want to drink less alcohol, so my goal is to become the type of person who drinks occasionally

Struggling to get work at a free market firm after lateraling. I was very well liked at my prior firm and had high hours so really struggling to understand why folks don’t seem to want to come back to me with more work. Worst luck ever. My group was very slow from Jan through may, so I won’t hit my hours, but am now (and will continue to be) very busy…. About to do 1990 hrs the most painful way possible. Fml.
