These “I passed the bar” posts on LinkedIn are getting a little ridiculous. Just saw a someone’s post about how they can now practice in any UBE jurisdiction. This person went to a top undergrad, HYS for law school, and works at a V5. It’s not that impressive to pass the bar, especially from those law schools which probably have a 99% pass rate. Bragging for bragging’s sake is tacky.

Does anyone have tips on how to strengthen professional relationships without coming off as a weirdo? I have reached out internally to be more involved at the firm, so I can meet more people organically. A lot of the people at our firm work remotely, so I hardly see anyone when I go in.

I’m a solid associate but but nothing impressive (high hours, positive attitude and good work product). Lack of strong professional relationships are going to hurt me as I get more senior.

I had to eat a lot of class years when joining big law. I didn’t go T14, didn’t get a summer job in big law, had to work my way up and finally got here. I’m at a great firm doing the exact work I like doing. Now, all around me, colleagues who graduated with me or after me are getting promoted and I’m still a long ways away. They all deserve it. But I can’t help but feel jealous and angry about the uncertainty ahead of whether I’ll make it there and how long it will take. Can anyone relate?

Is it a bad idea to accept a class year bump if I lateral? I worked for a year in-house after law school before joining a firm as a first year associate. The lateral offers I've received would bump me up a year so that my firm class year matches my law school graduation year.
