Not recognizing the team members who consistently pick up and or do most of the work that keeps the unit running. Recognizing the unsung heros who make sure things get done while others coast. Overlooking their efforts in favor of others. Allowing clicks and feelings of defeatment will lose staff rapidly.
Talking down and making staff feel like they are not trusted by the way they are micromanaged.
Empty promises and gatekeeping.
devaluing input. devaluing your employees roles. we're there because we care about what we do. at least pretend like you value us and our positions. listen to concerns without firing the people who raise them. at least pretend like you are there to make the job everything you sold it to be when we interviewed with you. people want to be part of the team. create a team environment. don't come in like a dictator. and if you want to tell people they can't take time off or they can't take care of the things they need to take care of and have time respected for things like appointments? then don't be gone all the time on vacation and at appointments. lead by example. servant leadership is a real thing.
Double standards for different employees, playing favorites, toxic bullying, punishing you for not working beyond hours you were hired for. I knew had a boss explode on me bc I wouldn't start a Nutritionist counseling session (for a family of 4!) Which requires pages of intake notes and anthropometeics for each person. The time was 3:41 and I had to leave at 4 to pick up my son from the home daycare he was at (the woman wanted every kid picked up by 4:30) so I didnt want to risk losing the daycare bc it is hard to find good ones.
A manager that doesn't support the team will eventually erode morale
