1. Acknowledge all of Black history not simply the digestible bits from the usual suspects The messaging should venture beyond diaspora oriented tentpoles we learned in primary school. Don’t be afraid of the so-called controversial figures and events. If non-BIPOC Americans can celebrate slave owners and traders as national icons…
2. Stop the performative social media engagement stuff. The narrative around BIPOC martyrs is nice but tired. There’s more to beneath the surface. And please find BIPOC people to lead the efforts and support them just don’t put them on an island and say build your own life boat.
I wish they would educate themselves reading a black author they had not previously read. I would not want them to think retweeting a couple of quotes is enough.

I’m also hearing you say they need to be more mindful of what image they actually project when they feel the need to project an “I’m one of the good ones who gets it” image with random quotes.
