Cut out the recruiter.
Recruiter is probably taking a cut.
You're getting lowballed. That works out to be $560/day assuming an 8-hour day.
I'm a senior CW in NYC (7 years exp) and have gotten up to $125/hour. On a day rate I've gotten $1000-$1375/day.
You should be asking for $100-150/hour.
@SeniorCW2 Hm, I understand that recruiters generally take a cut. I’ve gotten $100-$125 in the past through employee connections. Wondering what’s the norm through recruiters. They’ve all been telling me that $100/hr is for ACD positions
I'm a CD with 20 years and right now I get laughed at when I ask for $100/hr.
Depends on the city but I would say at least $100
This is for NYC
Yea I’m nyc and depending on your work you can get $100 easy.
SCW1 are you in Chicago?
Seems low, but they do take a cut. I'd definitely counter offer with a hard minimum for any project with said recruiter so neither of you waste each other's time.
You're getting a good rate through a recruiter yes. They keep a big % that's why your cut comes out to $70. The rates most of the folks are talking about above are when it's just between you and the employer. I've gotten $50/hr through a staffing (to be specific) agency arrangement.
Recruiters take 50% from my experience. So, $70 is pretty good from that perspective. I often see hourly gigs for senior positions for god awful rates because of that. (Like $35/hr.) Sadly, someone must be accepting that.
