What’s the most useful non-finance skill you’ve developed that helped your career in finance?

Writing? Public speaking? Coding? Something else entirely? Curious what’s actually differentiated people beyond technical skills.

Writing. Being able to explain something clearly in an email saves more time than any technical skill I have. Most people are terrible at it.

Definitely public speaking. I used to be terrified of speaking in front of others, but I knew I had to improve if I wanted to be successful. I took a public speaking class at a local college, which helped me immensely.

Hi ! I have gotten an offer via email for what I believe is level 9 data visualization specialist in the dc area. I have a masters and 3.5 years of consulting experience. I’ve gotten an initial offer and trying to get some context on what the range is for this and whether I should push for more or accept. It is 5,000 above what I said my minimum was, but is significantly more than my current salary. Thanks for any input :)

Trigger: rare illness post birth

Just sharing that I was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia 3 days after giving birth despite not having risk factors or preeclampsia in my pregnancy. Sharing as I had absolutely no idea about this illness.

Main things to do are check your BP everyday at least the first ten days after you give birth, and go to hospital if it's very high (over 160/110). If you get severe headache or stomach ache then also be vigilant.

Happy to answer any questions!
