Is WFH permanent at SDC?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Does LTI provide reimbursement for WFH setup ?

I do not work on the weekends. I have very strong work boundaries. You need to have them to have a good work-life balance. My working hours are 9 am - 5 pm, maybe till 6:30 pm if it’s been a crazy day. I WFH so no commute to deal with. When I shut my computer down, my work phone is shut off. My time is my time. Early in my career, I worked 24/7. Email on my personal phone & it would interrupt my time with my family. It was awful, & I learned that all that sacrificing I did, wasted time with my family, got me no where. No promotion & I got caught up in a lay off. When I started my current job was when I set my boundaries. 7 years strong & was promoted last year.
Is your company hiring? My husband has to move states and I’ve been trying to find a remote job but the market is brutal right now for remote finance roles
I don’t. If I had a job that required it, I would be sending out resumes with a vengeance.
There is usually one weekend a quarter I have to work on the weekend and I limit it to nap time and after the kids are in bed. And I never work Friday nights.
They don’t pay any of us enough to give up time with family and friends or to take 48 hours to ourselves. If it’s been a busy week or I’m closing deals across several time zones I’ll log on Sunday afternoon but keep it to no more than 2 hours and go about my normal evening (family dinner and winding down for the week ahead).
Not unless it comes with a weekday off and I’m working on a production issue.
I've had to work weekends and evenings before and it was tough. I really disliked being out of sync with my family and the rest of my friends, and I didn't feel like I was getting any benefit out of having days off in the week. I'm glad my current job doesn't require me to work at weekends, if that was to change I would be looking to change jobs as well.
Ideally, my personal policy of working over the weekend would be heck no. However, that is not the world I work in sadly. So, I am working, or procrastinating working, right now as we speak. My workload is a bit unmanageable for the traditional 9 to 5 life. So, I often find myself working evenings and at some over the weekends.
If it is once in a while, I am ok with it.
But, flexibility is a two way street 😊
I don’t. And my boss knows I don’t check email or teams after hours, on PTO, or on weekends.
I don’t anymore. But lots of jobs are saying mandatory overtime on weekends. The business can even be closed. Had a manager write me up for being unable to find child care for a Saturday that we were closed. I think 40 hours should be maximum. Give me a day off in the week if I have to come in Saturday.
I refuse now.
