Most jobs I'm seeing don't have the range listed or the ranges are massive, so I ask during the first call. There's no point beating around the bush and needlessly wasting time going through rounds of interviews. It's best to know right off the bat.
This is what I was looking for! Thanks!

I don’t care about their ranges. I care about what I am worth. If the two align, fine. But there is absolutely no reason to get hung up on posted ranges. Far too many are bogus and there is rarely anything that prevents the company from paying outside of their range. It happens far more often than people realize.
This is a great way of looking at it! Maybe I should look at my worth and build upon that.
I've usually paid attention to the salaries when they're listed. But of course even if they list them it's a band, and it's often so wide as to be meaningless. If I got called into an interview and didn't have any inkling of the salary I'd bring it up if it seemed like the interview was getting serious. There's nothing wrong with asking the question, of course, it's basic info, but it's probably best to weave it into the conversation tactfully.
Sounds good. Thanks for the feedback!
Jobs in nyc are required to have the salary range posted. I’m so glad they do now so you know if you aren’t wasting your time. Recruiters have reached out to me for jobs before when the salary range is like 1/3rd of what my current comp is.
Yes! I see certain jobs now say the salary range for specific states. I think I’ve seen Colorado there too.
The first call is a screen and the range is disclosed at that time
Thank you for your feedback!
Yes. If not given, ask during the first contact.
That’s what I was assuming too. Thank you!
