I turned down a job years ago because the salary offered was pretty much an insult. And the whole experience just gave me a bad feel for the place. At the time I didn't have much trouble finding a better job, so it worked out fine for me. These days, in this job market, I don't know how I would handle that. It's why I'm curious about negotiations these days, it seems like it's a different world.

I’m also curious about how negotiations go now with the job market. Sometimes it seems as if it’s a privilege and not a right to negotiate.
I had to decline a job because the offer came in way below market, even after I felt like I proved myself during the interview process. I tried to open up a conversation about salary, but they basically shut down at that point and that was that. In my opinion, I think I dodged a bullet, because if they weren't open to a discussion at all from the start, I probably would've run into other issues with them down the line.

True. It’ll be difficult to get anything higher if they’re already avoiding the salary conversation.
I turned down a job because the guy I would work for did not seem trustworthy. Comp was okay - nothing to get too excited about but was a step up.
Coach
That’s a good reason to avoid a place. Sometimes people don’t have that instinct.
I received a better offer while I was going through the interview process. If they had been willing to budge during negotiating, I likely would have gone with them because I liked the company and the sound of the work more, but they weren't, so I took the other offer.

How did you like the other job that you accepted?
Last time I was truly in the market, I had two offers and likely two more coming. I chose the one that I thought gave me the best opportunity to grow and it also paid more. I thanked the other company and politely declined. I let the other companies know that I was withdrawing my application and thanked them for their time.
Coach
That makes sense. It seems you’re very happy with your decision.
I've done this several times, only because I got a better offer somewhere else.
Coach
I need to start getting multiple good offers. So far, no one is responding. But, I’m in an OK place I suppose.
I was met with silence - no response at all which was pretty odd
Coach
That’s terrible. I’ve gotten ghosted too.
I turned down a job because the salary offered was below the range advertised. It would have required so many hours working and commuting that I'd have zero time to interview elsewhere, so taking it as a survival job wasn't possible.

That makes sense. Good thing you could weigh it out
