Oof, great question. From what I’ve seen, it should be professional, but the reality is often messier. People do make offhand comments, and those can color how others see a candidate. It’s not always malicious—but it does make you wonder how much hiring decisions are based on “gut” instead of merit.
I’ve heard it, but I don’t operate that way. Keep it factual, and if your “gut” says something, you need to figure out the why. I worked with a lot of overly negative gossip, and I don’t want anything to do with it.
I’m not sure how other companies operate, but we’re strictly professional here. There may be gossip, but I’m not part of it. I like to believe that everyone on my team keeps things professional as well.
From what I’ve seen- the HR recruiters are very professional. However, it’s a lot of non-HR people that interview candidates and I’ve seen gossip creep in there. But our HR does a good job keeping it professional
It’s mostly professional and focused on skills and fit. Decisions are based on feedback and evidence, not side comments or gossip.
