My manager took five of us to lunch today, but when the bill came, he told the server that he was paying for just himself and his assistant and the rest of us would need separate checks. I teach in a super red state and district and often my students do not see the pain of our Central American neighbors and why they seek asylum here. I tied their plight to my mom’s post-WWII and asked them why she was welcomed by our current immigrants are not. It was so powerful. One of my LatinoX students told me thank you for today’s lesson.
