Where are all the jobs? Apparently, the US economy is doing very well but my sentiment is just a bit different, lol.

I so agree.

If you actually look into the data, you’ll find that overall jobs are up, but this is driven entirely by explosive growth in the healthcare sector. In fact all other sectors are net down

I’m actually happy about it, that’s real healthcare, not middlemen who only drive the system costs higher

Most new jobs are in healthcare due to the growing sector of the senior community (Baby Boomers) and in 15-20 years from now it will experience the greatest loss.

The reality is AI is here and it will not go away. Mustafa Suleyman - Microsoft AI CEO - this week stated that most of not all of white collar jobs will be automated by AI within the next 18 months.

So it is time to evolve or become a dinosaur. Quoting Canadian PM Mark Carney: "If we're not at the table, we're on the menu." We all know that the jobs will not come to us. We must become and remain relevant. Do what you have to do. But sitting where we are and hoping luck will arrive simply makes us targets for elimination.

Job market is shit. For anyone young, the best thing to do is to learn a hands on technical skill. White collar jobs are going to get hit hard. Unless government steps in. So many companies are already starting to outsource heavily to India since the Indians can use chatgpt and do decent enough of a job for $13k— instead of company paying well over 100k. KldDiscovery for instance laid off their entire eDiscovery team over the past month.

Last year when Covid broke, I received a couple of interview calls but ignored them as I felt the organization kept me at work when other companies cut short their HR staff so I should be with them even if with no appraisal. But now, I was living in the fool's paradise when I am told to leave with no job offers in hand, car and home loan, dependent parents, expecting jobless spouse with a 3-year old kid.

Anyone going to SoFi's Atlanta members event tomorrow?

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

If I finish my MBA with extra loan money, should I pay it back to reduce the principal? Or invest it into the market? From my perspective it seems like it makes more sense to invest since the market is likely to generate more than my current loan rate. Although having debt also provokes some anxiety.

For additional info: my loan is a private loan of ~100k at ~5.2%. I have no other debt.

Child care when traveling for work should be expensable… also dog boarding… I cannot get over how things like first class seats and any meals for higher ups, dry cleaning, ubers/lyfts over cheaper options, etc. all are expensable but essential costs you need to foot when traveling like child care and dog boarding are not expensable. I wish we had a per diem like allotment rather than actual costs so we could use money left over if we choose cheaper options so we could use the money we save
