Which firms are less grades sensitive in general, especially in the NY market? (for a 3.25 from Fordham) Trying to target my search intelligently.

Blanket the firms below v50 I’d say. Also Kirkland sometimes just wants bodies, but you have with whatever crappy specialty they give you.

Ah, got it. I read too fast. In that case then yes he needs to be content with low V100.

Don’t target your search. Hiring can be random, particularly outside of OCI. Send everywhere that lets you apply on their website. It doesn’t take a huge amount of time once you have a résumé set up, just buckle down on a weekend. You’ll spend more time trying to figure out where to apply than just applying.

That said, you should spend some time networking if you can. It makes sense then to target more because it takes much more time

Most firms have a 3.3 or 3.4 grade cutoff (GDC and LW are higher and the informal cuff off for lit is often times even higher) and they’d have to seek special permission from the powers at be.

What practice area?

Open to either corporate or lit. Ideally commercial lit. Flexible for sure. Feel free to Pm me.

Hello,
Can we get promotion after the mid year review in CitiusTech?
Or the promotion for the mid year already done?
I see for many people the designation has changed but for me it's not. I was under the impression that the promotion happens after the mid year discussion or after the year end discussion.
Can someone please tell the details and when we can expect the new revised letter mentioning the new designation.

Received an offer for an internal promotion and the verbal offer differed from the written offer. Specifically, the bonus verbalized was 2% higher than the offer letter. HR basically just said ‘sorry, our mistake the letter is right’. What would you do?

Anyone else getting spammed for "law firm in house/gc's office" roles and know what the deal is with that? Not really looking to do it but curiosity

like

When BigLaw attorneys interview students, how soon afterward do they give feedback? What kind of feedback do you give as an interviewer at your firm (e.g. qualitative, quantitative, thumbs up, thumbs down, veto)? Does everyone get in a room or do you just submit the forms to one hiring partner, and/or to a black box? If you don't click with the student, what would make you still give them a thumbs up? Sorry if my questions are a little neurotic... !

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. I’ve been in a near constant depressive/anxious state for family reasons for the last year and half, and am soon having my first kid. I’m scared shitless that I’ll spiral out of control both at work and at home if something doesn’t change soon. Any suggestions on how to keep this job and keep it together?

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

First year here in a quiet patch (following a very busy period). There have been a few days where I bill 0 hours, which I’m told isn’t worth worrying about in this quiet time. But how do you spend your time on days when you bill nothing? This is a major stress for me. Cheers!

When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
