Raleigh-Durham...Apple just announced 2nd US Headquarters will be there, there is big CPG, it’s happening there - and it’s the perfect time to get in...
Tampa/St Pete is a great place
Love Atlanta. Has some great shops. Check out Fitzco and 22Squared.
San diego....do it
Portland is beautiful! Went deep sea fishing off the coast while vacationing on Bar Harbor. The fresh air and the seafood (!!!) treated me SO well.
Here’s my take on Atlanta: it’s a smaller network of agencies with smaller clients (mostly per project) with a few AORs of smaller brands mixed in with a few giant ones (Coke, Delta, Marines, Home Depot, etc), so FTE is scarce and the ability to jump around is almost non-existent. There is a huge cultural difference between major markets and here as well in the mindset, output and hustle. It’s slower, the expectations are less and the pay is generally less
San Diego had one shop...
Atlanta is affordable and has industry and creatives
I adore my town of Portland Maine! It’s not the most active job market, but there are definitely opportunities for talent here and companies doing really good work. Quite a bit smaller than Atlanta though :)
Minneapolis. More shops with AORs and doing real work. Enough good creative places to be able to jump around. Like Atlanta, less hustle and obsession with the work. Not sure that’s a bad thing?
I’ve heard Phoenix is decent?
Love San Diego. Would you happen to have any intel out there?
What are the main industries in San Diego and Portland?
Portland: craft beer, food, tourism, fishing, agriculture/aquaculture, veterinary technology, insurance/financial services. Most of our clients and those of most of the other agencies here are national rather than local.
Fuseideas1, are you guys looking for a new writer to join the team? Currently in New York and I’m looking for a breath of fresh air.
ECD1 speaks truth. To add, it sucks creatively and is a mainly account side run town. So for a Dir. of Marketing it might be good. LOTS of client side jobs that pay well under market standards. Cost of living isn’t as cheap as people make it out to be. It’s almost in line with Chicago as far as that goes. Have to remember it’s the eighth largest metro area in US.
@Senior Copywriter 1 we so do *need* more talent but I don’t know that we are budgeted for it at present. Lots of new biz happening though so stay tuned.
