Excel in Mac sucks. Had to use VM for business class but VM kept crashing due to limited memory.
But am a heavy excel user. I was recommended a PC but I have friends who are apply fan boys/ girls who claim that is just a myth and excel is equally functional on Mac but I don’t buy it.
You can use a VM to access windows. All our Macs have that
A VM can be limiting if you need to do memory/CPU intensive work with excel.
I use excel on my Mac for simple personal finance stuff so haven’t put it through its paces, but my understanding is that with 2017 it is very close to feature parity with Windows. My issue is the different UI. Years of experience are hard to overcome.
VM might not be a good way for me to go since I use JMP which does most operations in memory
If you’re going down this road, just switch to R
Mac excel and windows now share the same codebase. There’s almost no difference.

Mac doesn’t have the shortcut keys to access the menu bar in excel which is a huge difference and leads to a huge loss in productivity IMO
Keyboard shortcuts in a VM are really hard to use so if you’re a heavy keyboard user VM on a Mac is a no-go
