Who else is facing the possibility of being RIFed? I have a PhD from a good state school and a decent publication record. I'm okay at programming and believe I could quickly learn more, but I'm not up to date on the latest machine learning techniques that are in demand. I'm feeling pretty hopeless about my prospects and am open to pivoting to something new, but I'm unsure of what direction I could take. Anyone else?

As someone who has always worked in the private sector, I can confidently say that most Govies have imposter syndrome issues.

Your technical knowledge and your mission experiences are extremely valuable.

I'm personally looking to swap fed for local, county or state. Unfortunately I don't have any specific niche background aside from Navy Aviation but, I have been federally recognized for my work in my office and am working on a program Management certification and then some sort of cert in HR with specifics in retirement portfolios. Super fun.

I was already illegally DOGE'D after receiving a promotion from one federal agency to another federal agency. Did I mention I'm a disabled veteran. So, as a person that took an Oath to this nation many years ago I've NEVER understood how this nation could fall in love with an individual that was clearly deep in the pocket of a KGB murderous dictator.

At the end of the day, one day when I'm an old man they will have repay me for this illegal firing, but as we move to be more like a Hungarian nation, millions of Americans are going to suffer, stocks are going to suffer, American families are going to suffer, and why - because a president in the 80s made it legal for news and radio to lie to the people.

I have a solid academic background too, but feel like I don’t quite fit the mold for most private-sector jobs. I'm not giving up, though.

Apply for some software jobs, stressing your experience with programming in your current role. Be prepared to answer questions on your skills and show some expertise in an interview setting - ie stand up and code something. Scrub your resume of the government keywords, subjects, etc - working for the government can be considered disqualifying in many companies. But I've worked with many government workers who are both skilled and dedicated. Don't give up easy- apply, apply, apply. You'll be hired.

Trigger: rare illness post birth

Just sharing that I was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia 3 days after giving birth despite not having risk factors or preeclampsia in my pregnancy. Sharing as I had absolutely no idea about this illness.

Main things to do are check your BP everyday at least the first ten days after you give birth, and go to hospital if it's very high (over 160/110). If you get severe headache or stomach ache then also be vigilant.

Happy to answer any questions!

I’m having a really hard time with my changing body. 13 weeks, I don’t have too many bad side effects of pregnancy or anything so I consider myself lucky (no nausea ever etc) but I’m depressed at work, my skin is completely broken out and showing new broken face capillaries, and I’m not showing a bump yet so I just feel fat and big. I don’t know where this “glow” is but I look in the mirror and literally am grappling with not recognizing myself :( it’s been impossible to find any clothes too.

I currently work in Private (GA) Aviation & have for some time (about 12 years) I’m currently making the switch to the Department of Aviation and am unsure if I should ditch my current job (in private) and go full force with the DOA & embrace this new opportunity educationally and gather as much experience as I can or keep both jobs even though I’d be working 80hr weeks.. I love the private world but am really ready to move up. I don’t know what I should do. Any suggestions?

I am currently a biomedical engineer at @U.S. Food and Drug Administration with over two years of experience. I would like to hear everyone's experience navigating the GS increase (salary raise) as a government employee. Here are some questions for discussion. How long did it take you to be promoted to the next pay grade? What do you think contributed the most to that salary increase? If you transitioned into the private sector, what drove you to make this decision? Thanks!

I work through a contractor, and was hired 2yrs ago to be a Systems Test Engineer II. They decided last minute to make me a Software Content Manager, but kept my title as is since it was supposed to be a 6mo rotation. I’m still an SCM, and am taking on leadership roles in the group. How do I ask for a title change and pay increase to reflect what I actually do? Do I ask my contract house, or my NASA mgmt? Should I ask to make the pay retroactive since I was hired to do one thing, but do another?

Does where you get your masters degree matter? I’m in an online environmental science masters program at an expensive “name-brand” school, but have colleagues telling me I should transfer to a less expensive program to save $ because no one cares about where your degree is from.
