Better in what way? Tesla has a higher battery range which is a key selling point for EVs.
320 v 357. Ok but that difference won’t matter for 99% of people. The ford is just a better looking better feeling car. https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2026-tesla-model-y-vs-2025-ford-mustang-mach-e-comparison-test-review
The Cayenne electric is coming out later this year. It’s gonna be well over $100,000 we’re talking about what’s better than a Tesla the practically in the same pricing bracket knev is nowhere in that pricing bracket thing goes for the Etron a6 it’s a model y performance +20k.
And the leaf he’s on the beta max of charging CHAdeMO is an older DC fast-charging standard for electric vehicles it’s becoming a dead end and has no upgrade path the leaf has way worse resale value and you’re paying Tesla money for it. It just doesn’t make any sense it only charges it about 50 kW so you’re adding 15 to 30 minutes extra time to get the same range as it was a Tesla so you’re paying the same money and you were the way worse vehicle.
The cayenne electric is available for orders now and it is in the same ballpark as a model X. Likewise the ETron A6 is a model S competitor. The 2026 Leaf has both a J1772 port on one side and a NACS port on the other (No CHAdeMO) and 150KW DCFC.
My wife also has a Mach-E. We both love it. The model Y is good car, but it’s pretty ugly. I tried really hard to convince my wife to get the GT, but I didn’t win that battle. For our use case (and I’d guess for most people), there was no reason to get the Tesla for any reason other than saying we have a Tesla
I somewhat understand the allure of electric vehicles, although I personally have no interest in them. I grew up wrenching on my own vehicles, and have no interest in giving that up.
As to the Mach e, haven't there been a ton of recalls on it - even more than for Teslas?
The beauty of the free market is that we have choices.
Given my hobby is restoring vintage vehicles, I'm probably the last guy that would buy one. However, I did drive my sister's Model S for a week when I was pet sitting for her. I liked the acceleration but was otherwise underwhelmed. The only electric I have been in that I actually thought was fun was the Taycan. It's a little out of the price range for me, though.
My assumption is the supercharger network. I'm not sure if the Mach-E can use the Tesla superchargers or not
Mach-e can use supercharger network and supports plug&charge.
I don’t really like the Mach E personally, have a model y which we enjoy. But we bought it in 2023 with the rebate. Wouldn’t pay MSRP for one today, would likely go used
If I bought an ev it would be a Mach e
So let’s expand this thinking to what car in the same class would you buy instead of a Tesla
My picks
Model s. - lucid air. Taycan 4s bmw i7
Model 3 - Mach e Hyundai ioniq 5. BMW i4
Model x - Rivian r1s lucid gravity Volvo ex90
Model y - Cadillac lyriq. Genesis gv60 BMW ix
Cybertruck - rivian R1t. Chevy Silverado EV
Good list. I would make some additions and edits
Model S add BMW i5 Audi A6/S6 Sportback I really like the new A6 Sportback. That might be my next car since my wife has the mach e and we don’t need 2 SUVs. I actually shopped the Model S back in ~2014 and bought an A6 diesel instead.
Model 3 - not Mach-e that’s a Model y competitor. Add ionic 6, Nissan Leaf
Model X - BMW iX should be here not under model y. My other car is an iX and it was over $100k. It’s a spectacular car I drove an x5 45e before this one and the iX is like an X5 but better in almost every way. Add: Cayenne
Model Y: Optiq is a better match than Lyriq, Mach-e, Honda Prologue, Chevy Equinox, Toyota Bz
So sticking to EVs take off the A6. Nissan leaf It’s pretty terrible reviews agree. The ionic six is a pretty good call. The IX a few years old has been depreciating wildly so it can be had for similar model x prices new or used
Cayenne is not electric and with Porsche not selling the Macon EV well it’s debatable whether they’ll go full in on the cayenne The optiq is in the same class, but used for the same price lyriq is better and it’s totally fine all these days in the low 30s
The Honda prologue is not a bad choice, but they had crazy low lease deals that in two years the depreciation is gonna be so huge when those come back I wouldn’t buy one just to lose a bunch of value.
The Toyota BZ is just bad reading most reviews Toyota does hybrid’s not EV‘s well currently.
In the Chevy equinox EV is actually a good sleeper choice
There’s an electric A6 sportback (which looks amazing although I haven’t driven one) and the new 2026 Leaf is pretty well regarded. Huge increase in range and power from prior year. I haven’t driven this and it drives really solid. There’s also an electric Cayenne. Equinox I thought was a not as nice interior compared to Mach-e but it’s cheaper too. There’s also an EV Blazer but I think that’s above the Model Y so not a direct competitor.
