"I don't know, and I can find out"
Answer should be it depends not I don't know ;)
Find a better way to say"I don't know"; never BS.
"That's an interesting perspective, we'll look into that." Or flip it around and ask what they think...
I ALWAYS say what MD1 said. In my experience, my clients respect someone who knows their limits and doesn't shoot from the hip. This is especially true in tech implementations, where mistakes are expensive. Nothing at all wrong with admitting you don't know something, as long as the next sentence out of your mouth is "let me find out and get back to you with an educated answer"
Never BS. Say I'll get back to you and use that as an opportunity to have another meeting and potential bring in a specialist
"Great question...let me give you a partial answer and follow-up with a more thoughtful response."
